Mamelodi Sundowns could be facing charges from the PSL DC emanating from their Nedbank Cup semi-final clash against Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium.

Sundowns edged Stellies 2-1 to book a place in the final against Orlando  and were due to face the Cape Winelands outfit at the same venue in a DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday afternoon.

However, the game has been moved to Athlone Stadium following a pitch invasion after the May 5 fixture, as Sundowns fans celebrated the victory, which led to broken fences at the 12 000-capacity venue.

"Supporters planning to attend this weekend's DStv Premiership encounter between Stellenbosch and Mamelodi Sundowns are requested to note that the fixture will now be played at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town," Stellenbosch announced on their official website.

"The highly-anticipated fixture, which will be the second meeting between the two sides this month, will not be played in Stellenbosch, however, and will instead be hosted at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town.

"Kick-off for the match remains scheduled for 15h00," the statement read.

Although it is the responsibility of the home team in so far as logistics are concerned, Sundowns fans accounted for the majority of the crowd at Danie Craven Stadium and the club could face charges from the PSL DC.

In September 2022, Kaizer Chiefs were charged and fined R200, 000, half of which was suspended, after their supporters invaded the pitch and broke fences at the same venue following their penalty shootout victory over Stellenbosch in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

As a precedent, with regards to the broken fences at Danie Craven, The Brazilians could bear the costs, together with the League.

As an addition to the R200 000 fine, "Kaizer Chiefs was also ordered to pay the costs, if any, of the inner perimeter fence breached by its supporters," the DC ruled in that case.

“The League was also ordered to pay the costs of the outer perimeter fence damaged as a result of the invasion and due to what the DC characterised as inaccurate security arrangements."

In the Chiefs ruling, the League was also charged to carry the costs of the sitting, as opposed to Amakhosi.

"This was on the understanding that the league as the organiser ought to have arranged security differently," PSL DC Prosecutor Zola Majavu ruled.
