Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie says they will be aiming to close the gap on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premiership after beating them to two junior titles, including the DStv Diski Challenge.

Stellies were crowned Diski Challenge champions for the second time after edging Golden Arrows 4-3 in a nervy and dramatic final matchday on Saturday.

Sundowns climbed to the top of the table after trouncing Moroka Swallows 6-0, a scoreline that boosted their goal difference, before the Western Cape side took to the field a few hours later at Tsakane Stadium.

The Maroons, who eventually beat Arrows after being 2-0 down at half-time, a result that would have given Sundowns the title, also beat the Brazilians in the national Engen U18 tournament in the final on penalties late last year.

Benadie, reacting to their second Diski title, suggested that after overcoming Masandawana in the junior ranks they will be coming for them in the Premiership next season, where they are currently second in the standings.

"We're celebrating while we have this success, at the PSL level, Diski level, U18s won the national Engen championship. So, we're really blessed and what we wanna do is to use this as a building block for next season and the seasons thereafter," Benadie said on SuperSport.

"Mamelodi Sundowns is setting a hell of a base for all other clubs in the Premiership and we wanna try our best to get closer to them," he added.

Stellies are currently in a race to qualify for the CAF Champions League with Orlando Pirates and Benadie added that they will do their best to qualify ahead of the Soweto giants.

"It's a hell of a fight between the two clubs, we're gonna do our best," he concluded.
