Studying for a degree is hard enough. Add to the mix ongoing National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowance delays.
In recent months, thousands of students have not received their allowance payments from NSFAS, making it difficult for them to buy food, or pay their rent, and putting them at risk of possible eviction.
NSFAS did indicate on Monday that it would conduct a special allowance payment run to ensure students receive outstanding allowance payments, which should hopefully provide some breathing space.
Other students are still waiting to hear if they will receive any funding.

Last Thursday, the NSFAS board was dissolved with immediate effect because of members' inability to carry out and implement basic responsibilities, including overseeing the payment of student allowances.
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande appointed former CEO of the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants Freeman Nomvalo as the administrator for NSFAS.
