Last Saturday saw 1 Fox Street in Ferreiras Dorp in Joburg’s CBD erupt with the sounds of amapiano, deep house and even a touch of hip hop.

People in the crowd had an inflamed reaction to Drake being played over the speakers.

"He lost," some yell along with some who hurled some profanity at the speakers. Needless to say, the few times he was played, the DJ only let those tracks run for a very short while.

Acts such as DBN Gogo, Maglera Doe Boy, The Scorpion Kings and a host of others converged on this once-popular venue and delivered thunderous sets that had the corrugated iron roof pulsating with wave after wave of fat bass.

The venue was free to the public with an RSVP model instated, which saw masses of people turn up.

Words fall short in fully trying to convey how dope this party was.

Some had to be turned away as the night progressed due to capacity regulations, but this did not deter those who had the sense to arrive early.

Hosts Moozlie and Robot Boii conducted ceremonies and curated the line-up. DJs played at platforms that people could completely surround, giving the party the feel of a large-scale cypher.

Robot Boii was in his element on the night.

Maglera Doe Boy takes to the stage in a suit as he usually does and has people gyrating and jumping when he unleashes his portion of his hit song along with Cassper Nyovest, 018.

The Scorpion Kings were also on hand to provide thrills with their highly formidable catalogue which, naturally, made for a highlight of the night.

The large venue was cleverly split into two stage areas with a food court in the courtyard outside. People in attendance are well-behaved for the most part as a party in town always brings with it some uncertainty.

We happen to see a gentleman being dragged out by the scruff of his neck as one of his angry escorts yells at him, “Where is my phone bra?”

Shimza had the crowd in the palm of his hands during his set.

Shimza brings the night to a close on the main stage and provided an absolute séance of sounds that had the crowd slain in his wake.

He truly sunk his teeth in and made it painful to accept the end of what was truly an astonishing evening of music.

It has been a decade of the Ballantine’s True Music Boiler Room experience, and this was also celebrated in Pretoria as well as Durban at parties that, rumour has it, were equally as enjoyable.
