how do i wean myself of dormicum

Hi I have been an insomniac for abt 2 years now. I used to take trepiline but found I cudnt fall off to sleep and still struggled. I switched to 7.5 mg dormicum and then 15mg for abt 3 months now. I am trying to wean myself off the dormicum as I plan to fall pregnant soon. But its not working , I lie awake up most of the night. I have a full time job and am desperate for a few hrs of sleep. Plz advise as I dont know what to do to get myself off dormicum. I know for pregnancy I cant be on anything and to be honest I really want to go off the sleeping pills completely.

Usually when you want to get off sleeping tablets you need to expect that your sleep will be a little worse for a few days before it gets better. So start by going to bed much later thna you currently do - at least 2 hours later. Then drop 1/4 of the sleeping tablet. Take the 3/4 of the tablet about 30 minutes before going to bed to sleep. Expect that your sleep won't be great for the next few days but it should get better after that - usually takes 7-10 days. Because you have squeezed your sleep up to fewer hours you increase the chance of falling asleep at least for some hours during the night. After 10 days you should be sleeping fairly well - then you can decrease by another 1/4 tablet - again it will take about 10 days to sleep better. Take it very slowly but squeeze your sleep into shorter hours.
