Q.

Dangers of sleep apnea

My husband tells me all the time that i snore plus that i regularly stop breathing for 5-10 seconds during the nights. I also grind and clench my jaws resulting in headaches for which i am going to see a TMJ specialist. My employer used to be a medical doctor and think the apnea is nothing to worry about. Should i worry?

Apologies for the delay but my emails were diverted without my knowledge. Yes you should be worried about sleep apnea it could be causing the headaches and can cause daytime fatigue plus high blood pressure. Believe your husband - it is not normal to snore and stop breathing for any period.  You really must go and see someone more sympathetic regarding this disorder and get an overnight sleep study to see how bad it is. Speak to your GP and ask to be referred to a sleep specialist.
