Q.

Right ear blocked

My right ear has been blocked and "ringing" for about 3 weeks. Have seen an ENT specialist. Prescribed antibiotics and nasal spray. This worked well +/- 8 years ago. No effect now. I was advised that if I did not experience any relief, I would need to undergo an operation to insert a drainage device. I cannot do this as I am currently in chemotherapy for breast cancer. Is there any possible alternative eg having the ear syringed?

Hi there

You could ask the ENT to perform a myringotomy in his / her rooms with a topical anaesthetic - where they would pierce the ear drum and allow it to drain without having to undergo an operation.
