Colds and flu

Question

Q.

GBS and flu vaccine

I am 65 years old. I had GBS twice - once as a child and then about eight years ago. I am a little wary of getting the flu vaccine, considering there is a weak link here, but I heard this year the flu is particularly bad. Should I get vaccinated or not?

Hi Francois

Yes, there is a risk to get GBS again, and I would suggest that you rather take other precautionary measures to prevent yourself from getting the flu - the social distancing measures currently in place will also help prevent the spread of the normal flu. So keep your immune system boosted and keep up the social distancing. You can, of course, speak to the doctor who treated you for the GBS, or your current GP, and get their opinion as well. Good luck and stay safe.
