Q.

Could blood tests resulting in high Inflamatory markers be shingles?

Hi I was sent in an ambulance to A&E just over 2 weeks ago. I couldn't move my body as every muscle caused excruciating pain, my head felt like it was gonna explode, my neck hurt and I couldn't open my eyes because of the light and my temperature was up 1 min and then low the next. Doctors told me they were concerned about my blood results as my inflammatory markers was really high. I had liver xrays and ultrasounds but everything was OK. Since leaving the hospital (self discharged) I have been going back to the hospital every other day to get my bloods done again. These markers are coming down slowly. Afew days ago I developed a large itchy, painfull and sore rash on my chest that have blisters and my whole body is itching. Could I have shingles? The doctors told me that the high Inflamatory markers ment that I was fighting off a bad infection somewhere. Could shingles be it? If it is then how have the doctors missed this as I have had every single symptom

Hi Katie

It does sounds as if you were very ill. Yes, there is a possibility that you had shingles and I really do hope that you are feeling better by now. Did you have chicken pox as a child? Otherwise, if the blisters became more and spread over your whole body, then you might have had chicken pox. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
