Struggling to find a combination that works

I am currently on Serdep. I take Mylan Alprozalam, if I cannot sleep. Now I have been struggling and the Dr gave me 10mg Trepilene. This zonked me out, and I couldn't even get up to get to work. He said I should try Stresam. My Dr found out that it costs R450 for a months supply. I cannot find a generic online, as I cannot pay that amount monthly from my pocket. Do you perhaps know of a generic?

Hello Adele,
Serdep is the SSRI antidepressant Sertraline.  It has been shown to be useful in treating depression and can also relieve anxiety in many people.  Trepiline is an old antidepressant Amitriptyline, which is for any people very sedative, but also relieves anxiety and depression.
Stresam is an interesting drug used for anxiety, it's chemical name Etifoxine. It is difference from the alternatives, the benzo family of tranquillizers, which can cause dependence if used for more than a couple of months. and it seems to have little such risk.
But is is, apparently, eye-wateringly expensive, which is more unfortunate, and I am not aware of any cheaper generic version available to us.
One could with caution use benzodiazepines ; or I would suggest considering CBT style counselling, which doesn't take endless sessions, and can teach you techniques for controlling an avoiding your own anxieties.
