My husband snores very bad, it scares me sometimes and our children can hear him even behind their closed doors. It disturbs my sleep and I feel tired and grumpy all the time. He stops breathing for a few seconds at times. His breathing in general is very heavy, strained and very loud. It is annoying to sit next to him because all you hear is heavy, loud, wheezing breathing. His nose is always blocked and that makes the snoring even worse. Please help

What you described is a condition called obstructive sleep apnea where during sleep (with relaxation of the muscles of the upper airways) there is closure of the upper part of the respiratory tract with failure to get air into the lungs.  This is a very serious condition because the lack of oxygen to the brain causes the blood pressure to go up and leads to chronic deterioration of the blood vessels, the heart, and also affects mood, diabetic sugar control, etc.  Your husband urgently needs to visit a specialist who can deal with.  It's usually a respiratory physician or a pulmonologist but sometimes can be a person from another specialty.  The treatment is to get a special machine with a mask which will keep the airways splinted open at night.  It will lead to a remarkable transformation in his life.  It will also lead to better blood pressure control, blood sugar control, weight loss, etc.  You need to get this test done and the relevant intervention instituted as soon as possible.  There are several other dimensions that I have not discussed here but this can be discussed with our healthcare provider.
