Q.

What is gout?

From 1964-1973 the Chicago Cubs 2B was Glenn Beckert. He was traded to San Diego in 1974. During the 1973 season Beckert found out he has gout. I always thought gout is arthritis of the feet. Glenn underwent surgery after the trade for bone spurs in his heel. But can other body parts besides the feet be affected by gout?

Gout is a form of crystal arthritis and can affect any joint in the body, mainly the big toe.

The spur may be due to gout but there are many other much more likely causes.
