Q.

Duration of hives

Does hives appear for a certain period of time and different for everyone or is it dependent on controlling the amount of histamine in the body? ie am i meant to have it for a certain period of time and control itch and symptoms with antihistamines and then when it has had its course, it will stop?or the quicker and better i control the histamine, the quicker the hives stop finally.

Hives also called Urticaria becomes Chronic after 6 weeks and may persist from months to many years. It tends to "burn" itself out and go into remission, but can suddenly recur after years. No one is quite sure what triggers Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria and why it comes and goes.
