Beyoncé mesmerised fans worldwide with her portrayal of Nala in the 2019 hit film The Lion King. Now, in a perfect example of art imitating life, the sequel will feature her daughter, Blue Ivy, lending her voice to Kiara, the child of Nala and Simba.

Disney recently unveiled the trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, accompanied by an announcement from Beyoncé herself on Instagram, revealing the 12-year-old as another member of the star-studded cast.

Blue Ivy is no stranger to the world of voiceover work. In 2019 she lent her voice to Hair Love, a children’s audiobook about a black father who learns how to do his daughter’s hair while his wife is in hospital.

Barry Jenkins, the director of The Lion King, says that Blue Ivy's narration of Hair Love was the reason she was chosen for this job.

"I could just hear that Blue could do it, that she could play this character, Kiara," he told Good Morning America.

He also discussed working with the mom and daughter power duo, saying their real-life relationship helped form the relationship between the two characters.

"Beyoncé is this larger-than-life figure, but when she's working with her daughter, when she's in the room with her daughter, she's a mom first. So much of that energy bled into the film."
