Kaizer Chiefs could be setting their sights on a significant acquisition as they aim to bolster their squad for the upcoming season, with Al Ahly's Percy Tau emerging as a possible target, according to insiders privy to information.

The Glamour Boys, known for their history of securing top South African talents, particularly a decade ago with famous Bafana Bafana stars in their line-up, are keen on making a statement in their quest to return to their former glory as one of the best teams on the continent.

The interest in Tau comes at a time when the forward finds himself in a contract deadlock with Al Ahly, according to reports in Egypt. Despite his impressive tenure with the Red Devils since 2021, where he has made 104 appearances and contributed to 38 goals across all competitions, Tau's future at the club is uncertain, according to website ngmalgmahir. A standoff leaves Tau's future open, with Al Ahly not dismissing the possibility of his departure.

Chiefs' interest in Tau aligns with their strategy to recruit top-class players to rejuvenate their first team, bring in an excellent new head coach and finally win silverware again.

Siya sources close to Amakhosi have indicated there is an intention to bring in the best talent available, with Tau identified as a target too. The sources added that the challenge remains whether Tau, amidst his contract negotiations with Al Ahly, would consider a move back to South Africa. There is an opinion that he has unfinished business in Europe, leaving Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion relatively early to join the Egyptian giants.

As Chiefs prepare for a transformative season, the potential acquisition of Tau would signify a bold statement of intent, underscoring the club's ambition to compete with Mamelodi Sundowns.

"There are some players who the team have listed as their targets and Percy Tau is one of them," said the Siya source.

"But you know, the challenge will be if he wants to come to South Africa and Kaizer Chiefs for that matter. You know, management has made it clear that from next season they want to bring in the best players and the best coach so it would not be Tau only, as there are other big name players they are looking at.

"Chiefs are inquiring to fill up all the positions from goalkeeper, to defenders, midfielders and strikers. But for now, the one I can tell you that we know is on the list is Percy Tau," the source indicated to Soccer Laduma.

The Siya crew contacted Chiefs for comment but the club had not responded by the time this story was published.

Speculation surrounding Tau's future adds an intriguing layer to the off-season transfer narrative. With his proven track record and experience, Tau could play a pivotal role in Chiefs' aspirations to reclaim their status as a powerhouse in South African football.
