Miss T, an 18 year old student, has been experiencing a burning sensation in her vagina for five days. At first she thought she might have a bladder infection and took Citro-Soda. The Citro-Soda made no difference.
A day ago she also noticed an itchy sensation in her vagina. A slight white, discharge has also appeared.
Miss T is sexually active, but insists on her partner using a condom. She also takes oral contraceptives. She reports to her GP that her partner does not have any symptoms that she is aware of.
She is generally healthy, with no previous medical or surgical history, except for a cold for which she took antibiotics which she got from one of her classmates. (The classmate had pneumonia which cleared, so she stopped taking the antibiotics!)
Examination
- On examination no significant systemic abnormalities were found.
- On vaginal examination the doctor noted a red, tender vagina with a grey-whitish discharge.
- Urine testing showed: trace of blood, leucocytes.
