nails

I woke up this morning and have a very painful, red swollen area around the bottom half of my fingernal, and it throbs all the time. II dont bite my nails but occasionbally pick at them, could this be a Wicklow and how do I treat it? Please help! Nola

Yes it sounds like an infection of the nailfold (paronychia) Try Bactroban ointment on the area. If it makes a yellow point (abcess) it needs to be drained with a sterile needle.
