Yoga mats matter

Yoga is really good for you, and after an invigorating class, you probably do the same as everyone else: roll up your mat to stash in a corner at home. This, experts say, is the recipe for trapping bacteria, viruses, fungi and yeast that can cause nasty skin infections.

Take action:

Dermatologist Francesca Fusco advises that you instead mark one side of your mat with an "x" and always face that side up. She also urges you to wipe down your mat after every class with a disinfecting wipe. Also, you should fold your mat in half because rolling transfers dirt from the floor to the mat side that comes in contact with your skin. Finally, store your mat open in a dry area.
