ANC expected a worse showing than the measly 45% national vote it got - Mbalula

ANC head of elections Fikile Mbalula conceded that the party's national executive committee (NEC) went into the municipal elections expecting a more dismal showing than the measly 45% national vote the party eventually amassed.

Mbalula briefed the media at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Thursday following the conclusion of the municipal elections and the establishment of municipal councils throughout the country.

"We knew that we would drop below 50% and we were fighting very hard to cross that 50% threshold but we only managed to get 45%."
