From an organ set deep in the upper part of the human throat to a muscle layer in the human jaw, scientists are constantly surprising us with new discoveries in the human body. To add to that list, researchers have now found a "brand new" cell type.
This cell type, named respiratory airway secretory cells (RASCs), is situated deep within the human lungs.
Reporting their discovery in Nature, the team explains how these cells play an important role in keeping our respiratory systems functioning properly, and how they may also play a key role in lung diseases.
