A 28-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19 was later diagnosed with a severe infection of the eyelid and the tissues surrounding the orbit of the eye, known as orbital cellulitis.
Describing his case report in The Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, doctors from the State University of Londrina in Paraná, Brazil, said the man had developed "a mild illness" and was fatigued. He also experienced a loss of smell and taste – a hallmark of Covid-19 infection.
Initially, he didn't seek medical care but self-medicated with painkillers, as he assumed his problems were sinus-related. It was only when he developed a headache and swelling around the eye (along with the loss of smell and taste), which got progressively worse, that he sought medical attention. According to the report, he tested positive for Covid-19 and was also diagnosed with sinusitis.
