The fourth installment of Health24's vaccine information series, has senior research officer at the University of Cape Town's Division of Medical Virology, Dr Nyaradzo Chigorimbo-Tsikiwa speaking about the inception of Covid-19 vaccines and the speed of vaccine development.

Coupled with this, Chigorimbo-Tsikiwa also addresses the types of Covid-19 vaccines and how they differ from one another.

Regarding hesitancy around the vaccines, the World Health Organization (WHO) has reassured that they have committed to provide many resources to support the development of vaccines, while maintaining the highest standard of safety.

The organisation is aware that these vaccines are being developed quite quickly, which has raised concern, but they reassure that the speed won't compromise safety.

Even though there are vaccines available for use, researchers, doctors and scientists are continuing the research and development around Covid-19 vaccines in order to create more advanced vaccines and keep up with the virus as variants are discovered.
