Defining transsexuals

What is meant by "transsexual" and "transitioning"?

Transexual people are usually distinguished from other transgender people by their strong desire to live completely and permanently as the gender opposite to that which they were originally labelled at birth.

Transitioning is not purely about changes in a person’s physical appearance, personal and social changes are normally involved as well. This is especially true in regard to relationships with those closest to the transexual person, such as their family.
