WATCH: 3 quick sides to upgrade rotisserie chicken

A bird in the hand is half the battle won when you need to whip up a delicious supper on the fly. One of these fuss-free side dishes will do the rest…

If the dinner-party date’s set but you’re still short on menu ideas, don’t underestimate the impact a simple rotisserie chicken can have – especially when the bird is butter-basted and slow-roasted until the skin is gorgeously bronze and crispy, and the meat tender and juicy.

All that’s left to do is jazz it up with a fuss-free, flavourful side. Think blanched asparagus, olives, red onion and pan-fried halloumi, if you’re keen on something crunchy. Or charred corn with chilli butter, chopped coriander and Parmesan, for a little Mexican fiesta (hello, margaritas). Talk about birdie num-num.
