Two "horrified" boys fled from an illegal initiation school in
Buhlundwana village near Qumbu after their circumcised penises
developed septic wounds, the Eastern Cape health department said
on Thursday.
Fearing from their lives, the two underage boys escaped to the St. Lucy hospital and related their horrific experience to nurses, spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said.
"They are in very bad condition... They have been assaulted, starved and badly treated by the illegal surgeon at the school."
He said the department, police and local chiefs from the provincial house of traditional leaders will close down the school later on Thursday in a bid to save the remaining boys.
This follows the deaths of five other boys at the hands of illegal surgeons in the area.- (Sapa)
