Soup season is coming!

A wholesome, thick soup is good for the body and the soul. There's little better than enjoying a bowl of soup when the chilly weather arrives.

The quality of the ingredients that you place in the soup is so important, so choose a variety of vegetables with lean meat cubes/skinless chicken or lean bacon. Add extra fibre into soup such as barley, wholewheat spaghetti, brown rice and a variety of beans (butter beans, sugar beans or even a tin of baked beans). You could also leave out these starchy ingredients and enjoy the soup with wholewheat or low-GI toasted bread.

There are many options available to those of us who don’t have time to cook from scratch, such as "soup packs" with already chopped ingredients, or prepared soups which are fresh.
