What you drink every day can make a huge difference to your overall energy intake. It’s a good idea to keep a food diary and note what you drink too. If you are putting sugar into tea/coffee or including a few fizzy drinks, iced teas and wine every day, then these can add a lot of energy into your diet.
Try to cut down on sugar in tea or coffee gradually – you will get used to the taste! Limit fizzy drinks. If you drink fruit juice, only have ½ glass per day mixed with water (rather eat whole fresh fruit). If you battle to drink water, then try adding some lemon/mint/cucumber slices or even other fruit to "liven it up".
If you are really watching your energy intake, limit wine to 2 -3 drinks per week. A small amount of red wine in your diet can also provide some health benefits in the form of antioxidants.
