New research shows that sleeping in a lateral position (on your side) is the most effective position for clearing the brain of metabolic waste products that build up while we are awake.

This could slow down or prevent the development of disorders such as Alzheimer's, as the position helps dispose of the destructive protein amyloid, which causes the toxic plaques that define Alzheimer's disease.
