Struggling to swallow? Check your mouth and throat for white plaques on your tongue or the back of your throat.

Oral candidiasis is common in HIV patients and may cause severe discomfort and pain when swallowing.

Oral candidiasis can be treated with an anti-fungal mouthwash while throat and oesophageal infections will require prescription medication.
