New research suggests that children who take stimulant medication for ADHD are more likely to suffer bone loss and, as a result, are at a greater risk of fractures and osteoporosis.

If your child takes Ritalin, Concerta or other ADHD medication, ensure he or she regularly undergoes a bone density screening.

Frequent weight-bearing exercise and an adequate intake of vitamin D will also help to promote healthy bones.
