To what extent is your propensity to suffer from mental health problems something that you were born with? In a new study – one of the largest of its kind – scientists analysed the genetic code of nearly 300,000 individuals. They identified specific genes that are connected to personality traits like depression, neuroticism, schizophrenia, anxiety disorder and psychological wellbeing in general. But happiness doesn’t only depend on your DNA. Environmental factors are at least as important and interact significantly with the genetic effects.
