We've heard about fish being 'brain food', but what about all the other types of food out there?

The human brain is a rather complicated, delicate mass and requires a certain number of specific nutrients to function optimally on a day-to-day basis. 

Many know that fish is brain food – many of us were possibly told this at some point during our childhood – but more specifically, fatty fish is an important item to include in your diet, because of the omega-3 fatty acids.

While fish may not be the most exciting item of food to have your plate two to three times a week, there are many other types of "brain food" to give your brain a boost – not only for today, but for protection from illnesses as you grow older, such as Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease and dementia.

From fatty fish to nuts, and berries to dark, leafy greens – here are seven of the best foods for brain health.
