Q.

Wisdom teeth removal

Hi,

My dentist recommended that I have my two top wisdom teeth removed. The bottom ones have been removed some 10 years ago and apparently the top ones kept on growing.

She referred me to another dentist to have the teeth removed in the chair. My problem is that my medical aid will not cover the costs as I only have a hospital plan.

Can you roughly give me an idea of how much this would cost?
What would be the implications if I just kept the teeth - they are perfectly healthy.

Thanks

you will have to contact the surgeon for the fees as I am unaware of the specialist tariff. it could be in the region of R900 upwards
You could leave them if they are not painful. if they are close to the lower jaw already because of the over eruption they could cause pain when they touch the lower gum later.
