Q.

receeding gums etc

Dear Dentist

I have had braces in the past and have nice looking teeth but was told last year I have gingivitis and it has progressed to mild peridontal. (I think she measured a 3 as the highest when inserting inbetween my gums). I am very worried as I have always been very carefull and discipled with brushing &flossing.
what else can i do besides that? (I've had the hygenist special peridontal cleanign session for R2 000!)
I also sleep with my mouth open so am worried this might contribute. What causes receeding gums?

thanx
Alison

Hi Alison
There are many, many causes of periodontitis. If you brush and floss regularly it is unlikely that poor oral hygiene is the cause. Sleeping with your mouth open should not contribute to the problem.
If you are very concerned, my advice would be to see a periodontist as well- he/she specializes in periodontal problems.
