Q.

in pain

i have had very painful gums since sunday so on monday i went to the dentist. he said i have a very bad gum infection (and tartar build up or something) and he put me on antibiotics called adco-metronidazole. i have been taking them religiously but i still have no relief. i am in alot of pain, my glands around my neck are swollen, my head and eyes are very sore and i am nauseous and cant sleep. how long is it going to take before these anti-biotics kick in? i also have a foul taste in my mouth - is this from the infection. He said if the anti-biotics dont work he will refer me to a paediodontist or something so he can go into my roots and clean them - is this a painful procedure? can you be put to sleep?

You seem to be suffering from periodontal disease. see:

contact your dentsit and inform him that the pain is persisting despite having taken the antibiotics. Even if the pain does subside , you will still need cleaning of the tartar
