Q.

Diagnosis Please?

Please Help. I woke about two weeks ago with my jaw not being able to open fully without feeling a pain on the left side of my jaw. I have not been able to make time to get to a dentist as yet, but i have to take painkillers before i eat in order to get some food in. Its almost as if when i open my mouth ,the left side gets stuck halfway and if i try and force it open its extremely painful and makes a cracking sound. The pain has now extended to just below my left ear. Is this a dental/orthodontic issue or something else?

You seem to be having a TMJ (joint) problem. There could be many reasons for this but the most likely is that your disk around your joint has moved "out of place" and is not able to function optimally.
It is important to have an xrsy of the joint taken to assess the condition fully.
See your dentist urgently.
