Q.

Decay of my 4 year old's teeth

I wonder if you would be able to give some advice. I had a prem baby 880g birth and was born at 7months. I was so concerned about all the antibiotics that she received , so when her first tooth came out I started brushing it and really I have been brushing her teeth twice a day , but her two front teeth have nearly disapeared and her other teeth look asif I am not taking care of them. I would like to know what do I do must I take her to a dentist or should I just brush every day and wait for the teeth to fall out. Secondly I live in Kempton Park and would like to know if there are any children dentists in the area because I am not sure if we go to an adult dentist if they would be patient and understanding of the fear that Stephanie has developed to doctors. She is now 4 years old and hopefully with the way medical aids work now days that there will be enough funds for me to take her to a proper dentist.

HOpe you would be able to give some help with this matter.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email.

You have to take her t o see your dentist as soon as possible. if the teeth are badly damaged you should not wait for them to fall out. There is a risk of infection developing if the teeth are left in the mouth. Contact the dental association for dentists in your area 011 484 5288

There is a dental practise in Highway Gardens Edenvale that specialise with Children - they are fabulous! Its called Shelton Dental, 011 392-3197. There are a number of dentists there - my daughter goes to Dr Mitchell and has also been to Dr Anderson. Both are awesome with kiddies who are scared of dentists etc. They charge normal medical aid rates, so are affordable. Good luck
