Q.

Chronic Abcess

I have a painless, chronic abcess in one of my bottom molars. It was diagnosed more than two years ago and was given antibiotics and it cleared up. I was told that I would have to have my tooth removed but I do not want to do this and have never returned to the dentist for this procedure. I now am no longer a member of a medical aid and do not have the funds to have it treated. Can the above cause further problems or can I leave it until I have pain.

yes, the abscess can spread further. you do not need to extract the tooth. a root canal procedure can be done to clear the tooth of the abscess and save the tooth
