Q.

Bruxism

Dear Doctor,

I am a 58 year old woman who has suffered with bruxism I think my whole life. It is so bad that even now that I have dentures I haveground the teeth and the plate flat in places within 18 months.

I am on medication for depression which has bruxism as one of its side effects and am seeing the doctor regarding this shortly however my father and his brother were both grindrs so I think it is inherited and I do it 24/7 so a guard won't work will it?

I have just read of something which you put on the side of your mouth inside like a band aid which is supposed to alert you that you are doing it or something. Have you heard anything about this and how effective it is?

I'm at my wits end!

IT is not advisable to use a gurad for the whole day and night. I have not heard of the appliance you describe, please repost a new question and include a link for the item
