Treatment for red bump on tongue

Dear Doc, I had pain when I was eating. Some days later I noticed a dark red bump on my tongue. It has been there for 3 months. I took photos of it yesterday (http://oi68.tinypic.com/un0q0.jpg). It does not cause me pain any more but it feels irritated. When I eat, I avoid putting food near the bump. After eating or drinking, I wash my mouth out with water. I tried using Kenalog in Orabase (for mouth ulcers) for 1 week but this had no effect. I do not smoke cigarettes. I do not drink alcohol and I do not eat spicy food. What do I have and what treatment should I try? Thanks.

You need to have this examined by a dentist. It could be caused by various factors. Sometimes areas like these need to be biopsied to find out what is causing them
