According to a case report published in the Journal of Emergency Medicine, a 58-year-old woman showed up at the emergency room after developing severe eye pain and swelling for more than five days.

The life-threatening infection is extremely rare, and the study’s co-author, Dr. Ryan Walsh, an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee, told Live Science that it’s "probably a once in a career case”.
