z mnth and ws mnth old with gastro

My two babies have had gastro for over a week. I have been told its a bug that needs to work itself out. The babies are not dehydrated and are eating. I have treated with Smecta and Kantrexil prescribed by my doctor, but they still have runny tummies. Will it clear or shld I take them back to doctor? Many thanks.

You have not given the ages of your two babies. In spite of their ongoing diarrhoea they seem to be eating well. It remains essential that they are seen by your doctor to make sure that they are not dehydrated.Tt is possible that they both have a temporary lactose intolerance which commonly occurs for a short time after severe gastro in babies. It would be a good idea to stop all cow's milk formula and all dairy products and substitute with a soya formula.Usually this temporary lactose intolerance lasts about 3 months and after that babies and toddlers are able to tolerate cow's milk again.
