worries over new born

Hi Doc,
My new born is about 5days old today, she''s got launugo hairs all over her skin, coupled with whitish rashes. She weighed in at about 2.3kg at birth, don''t know if thats the cause of it.Shewasalso diagnosed with jaundice with levels of about 252,is it ok? the doc. said exposure to sunlight will take care of it.
I''d also like to know what to do for her to gain weight cos''she''s so tiny,am currently breast feeding, should i give formular as well?

Do not be concerned. Your baby's lanugo hair is due to her being so premature. This will disappear. The white spots you mention is due to skin mottling. This is also due to her being so premature and it is difficult for her to maintain her body temperature. She will benefit a lot from being in cotact with your body all the time, the so-called kangaroo care. Ask the nurse about this method. Her jaundice will respond to sunlight or if necessary to the special light treatment in the hospital. Only breast feed your baby and you will be amazed how quickly she starts to gain weight.

Thanks for your speedy response. My baby was''t born premature, she was born at 38wks,she''s just small for her age.So i did not expect the hair/rashes.I know that her organs are functioning properly at 38wks,she just needed to add more weight before birth.
Do i need to be on a special diet in order to produce high-calorie breast milk for the baby?
