Q.

worried

hello Dr I have just learned that my friends baby of 10 months old has Herpes, they say he pick it up from the creche that he just started. He has sores in his mouth. we hardley see each other and our babies last played with each other about 5 months ago due to both of us having busy lives. Im worried cause im planning my sons 1st birthday and i want to know can herpes be spread through toys if the baby puts the toy in his mouth. There is going to be a few babies at the party so i need to make sure that they are safe. I dont know much about herpes just that i was tested for a lot of these infections when i fell pregnant. I know that its for life and i dont want to put my angel in any danger. WE are all praying for this little boy.

Your friend's baby has a viral condition called herpes stomatitis. The virus can be spread by contact especially in young babies. The baby is infectious to others for at least 10 to 14 days. It is not adviseable for your friend's baby to attend your party.
