Worms worried mom

I think that my 17months old son had pinworms as he is irritable, cant sleep well, wants to scratch his bum.i have administered vermox for three days but i dont see any progress. how long does it usually take for the symptoms to go? another thing is he moves his head in a nodding about three to four times at a go, i am so worried. is this linked to the worms? i heard that the worms move anyway in the body when they have entered, is it true? we took him to the dr and he said we should repeat vermox in two weeks time, will it help then? this is starting to affect me as i am so worried

It certainly does appear as if your son does have pinworms. The usual treatment is a single 5ml dose of Vermox syrup. This is a very effective treatment but usually takes at least 3 days to work. The dose can be repeated once after 10 days and then once a month for 3 months. Each time you only need to give one 5ml dose of Vermox syrup. Make sure that your son is not re-infecting himself by keeping him out of sand and sandpits in particular and washing his hands well after he has been playing outside.
His head nodding is another problem which may be due to an eyesight problem. He should be seen by a children's eye specialist.
