Q.

Witholding poo

Hi there, thanks for a wonderfully helpful forum - good to know that there are other parents out there with the same issues...

My son is 3 years ten months and I am currently "potty training" him, he has been out of nappies for the past 4 months and has been making a wee in the toilet by himself NO PROBLEMS - he however does not want to poo in the toilet (have a training seat and a step for him to get up and down by himself) I have tried all the tricks and still he does not want to go sit and make a poo.. He prefers to start making the poo in his underpants (usualy hides away in another room or behind a chair or curtain when doing this) and then goes to sit on the toilet to let the poo drop into the water - I did not have a problem with this and would explain to him that the poo is meant to go in the potty, but that he should try to sit down on the potty the next time he feels he needs to go (it did however result in a LOT of dirty underpants and one poo being spread out throughout the day (+- 4 small ones)... Recently (about a week ago) he stopped doing this and would just hold back the poo each time he felt it coming - I have given him 10ml of Laxette for 3 days and today inserted a Glycerin suppository, still nothing..

He has no fever and shows no other signs of discomfort, but I am concerned that this may end up causing a BIG problem...

Please advise

Thanking you

Through holding back his stool he has now become very constipated. The problem is that he has not even responded to the Laxette and the glycerine suppository. Try him on Duphulac solution 5ml twice daily. If he does not respond after 2 days please ask his paediatrician to see him.
