when does a baby learn to swallow his spit

My toddler has a problem since birth to swallow his spit. He is over 2 years now and I have learned him to swallow his spit but he only swallows it on command. The GP and clinic sister says its his tonsels or he will do it later on. In winter he is alsways sick due to his wet shirt. Please help to assist me to him drooling over everyting.

It is unusual for a toddler of this age to still have difficulty in swallowing his saliva. In addition you mention that your son has had this problem since birth. He may have a problem known as 'dysphagia'. There are several possible causes for this.Your son should be seen by a speech therapist first and after that he may need to be seen by a paediatrician as well in order to find the reason for your son's problem. He may need to have an Xray investigation known as a barium swallow done. He should see the speech therapist as soon as possible.
