What to feed a 6 month old

Hi everyone

My daughter is 6 and half months old and I'm not sure of what to feed her. She eats: 3 bottles of 125ml NAN 2, 6 spons of rice cereal, 1 1/2 jars of purity second stage for lunch and supper and breast feed right through the night. She weighs 10kg and she is growing well.

the clinic sister said I should carry on giving her the same as she is gaining weight very well, the only problem is she still can't move from her back to her stomach ( probaly because she is heavy).

Please advice guys. I'm a working mom and don't have time to prepare and mash food.

She is on the right diet, but seems to be overweight. Once she is crawling and more active she will lose some weight. Why are you still feeding her all night?

Hi K

My son's routine is very similar and also 'saves' himself. He'll leave about 10ml in his first and second cup and he'll drink about 3/4's of his last cup at 16:00 because he knows Mommy is coming to breastfeed. :-) At the end of the day, they'll never start themselves and you can't force them to drink or eat. As long as they're picking up steadily and are happy and content there shouldn't be any problems. I'm sure your local clinic can help you if you're still worried.

Thanks everyone for the information. At least my baby is not that far off.

Tina, just for clarity:
3* 125ml of formular through the day
Breakfast:
6 table spoons of rice cereal, mixed with formula milk
Lunch:
Jar of purity 2nd stage(vegetable, fruit or meal)
Supper:
Jar of purity (vegetable or fruit)
Breast milk through the night (from 7pm to 6am)

The problem is, according to NAN2 she should be drinking a lot more. The advice I got was that she is probably saving herself for breast milk during the night because she feeds right through the night.

Once again thank you

Hi K

Is that 6 teaspoons or tablespoons? Does the Nan2 tin say 125ml? At 4-5 months the Nan1 tins says 175ml with 7 scoops and I think for 6 mths it says 200ml with 8 scoops

All I can tell you is what my son has. He's 5 1/2 months old (8,3kg) and eats the following:

Breastmilk through the night until morning.

08:30
12 x tsp mixed fruit cereal (+ 2 scoops formula + 50ml water)

10:00 & 13:00 & 16:00
3 x 175ml cups of Nan1 formula at daycare

18:00
12 x tsp mixed fruit cereal (+ 2 scoops formula + 50ml water)

Hope this helps! :-)

Hi there,

What she is eating sounds correct. My LO is 6 and a half months and this is what her diet consists of during a day.
She has 4 * 150ml formula in the day. For breakfast she has 10 teaspoons rice cereal-3rd stage. Then lunch she will eat a jar of 2nd foods either fruit or veg, depending on what supper will be then for supper i give her half a jar of the 3rd foods purity. When i took her to the paed 2 weeks ago she was weighing 7.2Kg and he is happy with her growth thus far. He says i could even start giving her a whole jar of the 3rd foods (6month) purity for supper.
Milk still stays the most important part of there diet.

Hope this helps.

Take care!
