Q.

What to eat or not

I have a 13 month old daughter who does'nt want to eat baby food i.e. Nestum, Purity, and even refuses to drink her Formula. She was eating them until recently when she turned 12 months then she started refusing them and wants to eat what we eat and drink juices instead of formula. I am still breastfeeding in the morning and evening and I just want to find out is it is ok if she does'nt drink the formula during the day and she does not eat that much sometimes.

It is fine if your child eats what you eat at this age. They will eat if they are hungry and please do not offer unhealthy alternatives. The most important thing is that she is not ill and that she continues to grow well, even though she may eat slightly erratic at this age.

I listened to the old wives tales when I was pregnant and avoided oranges, mangoes etc but my baby had jaundice anyway.

Jaundice is caused by a build up of billirubin - it has nothing to do with eating yellow veggies and fruits.

You should definitely eat a balanced diet while pregnant, which includes all fruit and veggies.

Hi Cynthia

It is not true because i ate almost half a bag of oranges a week and my baby was born healthy and fine without any jaundice.

Keep on eating healthy food or fruits without fear.

Good Luck!

Hi
Please advise - is it true that eating any yellow fruits or foods such as oranges, mangos etc can cause yellow jaundice in my unborn baby?

Yes, baby doesn't need formula at this age.

You can give full cream cows milk during the day as part of a balanced and healthy diet.

From about 8 months, babies can be fed what you eat just mashed roughly, so you should by now be feeding baby the same meals as you, just cut into smaller pieces or mashed very coarsley.
