What Milestones to expect at 6 months

Hi Doc

My baby just turned 6 months on the 3rd Dec. She was born at 36 weeks and weighted 3.09kg and was 51cm tall.

She is not interested in sitting on her own. She will now and again for a while but then falls over. She's also not rolling over yet she does try but hasn't mastered the skill as yet.

When you pick her up she wants to stand and holds herself well. What milestones can I expect at 6 months bearing in mind she was 4 weeks premature?

Babies usually sit by themselves at around 6 months, but you must make allowances for your baby being born about 4 weeks early. She will start sitting by herself in another month or so.

My son, now 14, sit at 4 months, crawl at 7 months and walked at 9 months, my little princess however, now almost 11 months, sit propper at just before 6 months, crawled at 9 months and are now only standing unattended for a few seconds - trust the first steps will come soon after 1 year. As you can see they differ allot and you cannot compare them with one another. Seeing that your baby's actual age is 5 months - trying to sit and sitting for a few seconds is actually VERY GOOD at this stage. PS my baby only started to roll over AFTER she mastered sitting!! Keep on playing with her and stimulating her and you will be soooo proud!!

Hi there

Just want to let you know that my baby is now 9 months old and only started sitting well without toppling at about 8 months. Before that he still 'kissed his toes' when I put him into sitting and fell over ag\fter just a second or two. I was beginning to giver up on him and then one day he just sat. He hates his tummy and just bout rolls over if he has to. But now he pivots on his bum and gets on all fours but after a few seconds his arms collaps - so no crawling yet.

All my children only sat after 7 months closer to 8 months. I have 3
